Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about choosing a forex broker with cent accounts

What is a cent account actually?
A cent account denominates balances and lot sizes in US cents instead of dollars. If you deposit $100, your account shows 10,000 (cents). Trading a 1-lot position that would be $100,000 on a standard account becomes $1,000 notional on a cent account. This lets traders test real-money execution at much smaller position sizes than regular micro-lots allow.
Why use a cent account instead of regular micro-lots?
Cent accounts let you trade positions equivalent to 0.0001 standard lots (i.e. $10 notional) — meaningfully smaller than the 0.01 micro-lot minimum most brokers enforce on regular accounts. For strategy testing or teaching, where you want to feel real P&L swings without material risk, cent accounts scale down 100x beyond regular micros.
Is a cent account a good path to learning?
For feeling real-money psychology without material financial risk, yes. The key caveat is that some trader psychology only kicks in at meaningful dollar amounts. If $5 of P&L genuinely changes your emotional state, a cent account delivers that lesson cheaply. If you need $500 of P&L before trades 'feel real', a cent account won't teach you much beyond mechanical execution.
Which brokers offer the best cent account conditions?
Exness and RoboForex are widely regarded as the cleanest cent account implementations — full platform functionality, no trade restrictions, identical spreads to standard accounts. XM and FBS also run strong cent accounts. Avoid cent accounts at brokers where the mechanics feel hidden or restricted — that's often a sign the cent account serves as a loss-leader funnel rather than a real product.
